Excellent TV for the price. I was skeptical....was
This is an excellent TV for the price. My wife and I got this TV for our one bedroom apartment and we have been thoroughly impressed so far. The 50" is perfect for a small apartment if you don't want your WHOLE living room to be taked up by screen. You may say "Can I go with just the 43 inch??"...That depends on the
size of your room. If you want to use this TV as a monitor on a desk or if it's going in a bedroom the 43" would probably work. I am very glad I went with the 50" for our living room because a TV any smaller would feel too small for sitting 15 feet away. We sit about 15' away in our living room and the 50" is about the perfect size. The resolution and frame rate at this distance is very good. Blu Rays and "Ultra HD" Netflix look excellent. I did notice some weird pixelation when viewing certain colors of purple and bright red but that is hardly noticeable and may have been from the Movie I was watching. I didn't notice any of that when watching netflix. I found that the standard color and brightness setttings were fine for our place! Sound is great too. The speakers are plenty loud, we only keep the volume at 25-30.

Excellent value and quality
How can you complain, a 50 inch 4k tv for under $300. There are plenty of hdmi ports, as well as an av converter port. I normally am not the biggest fan of streaming on a smart TV, as many of them has disappointing processors, this has a duel core cpu and gpu. Now, this display will not be as good as the 3 grand OLED tv, but I would NEVER spend $3000 on a tv. I already had Roku devices on all other tvs and cut the cord several years ago, hence, I was thrilled to have Roku built in. LOVE having access to the other HDMI devices through the Roku interface. No longer do I need to change to a different input. Roku remote does not have a ton or buttons, but what it does have works well. Just wish that they let you program what apps to set the quick access buttons on the bottom of the remote. Also a bit counter intuitive on finding some of the functions on the remote like a sleep timer. Overall, thrilled and would purchase this again.
Unbeatable value for a 4K TV
When reading online reviews of 4K TVs, it's important to remember that reviewing TVs for a living and comparing between them sometimes creates a bit of a disconnect from normal reality for someone that is just looking to upgrade from regular HD to 4K - especially if you are someone like me who is confined to looking at the "value" offerings because we can never in a million years afford the "premium" sets. So if you've not had a 4K TV before and any of the comments about the picture quality on this one not being top-notch are scaring you, please allow me to make it clear: the picture on this TV is gorgeous. I know some people have very exacting standards, but if you are looking for a beautiful image and you are on a budget I just cannot imagine how you'd be disappointed with the quality of this TV. 4K video is stunning on it - truly stunning. Even my wife, who typically couldn't care less about HD picture vs SD and rolls her eyes when I talk about the difference between 720p and 1080p, was blown away when I put on 4K video. I use it as a computer monitor for my business throughout the day as well, and the sharpness/brightness of the image has actually helped to eliminate problems I was having with headaches using my old TV in the same way. Even in 1080p on my older non-4K Xbox One, the difference between this and the old plasma TV it replaced is remarkable. In addition to the excellent picture, the Roku system works very nicely. There is a fair amount of inputs. The sound is a little weak, although adjusting the Sound setting can usually produce a solid enough sound for whatever you are watching. But once I hooked it to my soundbar, it's all good. It nicely outputs Dolby Digital and DTS signal to my older Vizio surround soundbar system. All in all, I couldn't be happier. Now it's just a matter of hoping that the quality holds up for the long haul. My last two TVs have both been budget purchases, and both are still functioning pretty well after 7+ years. If this TCL could match that, I'll be over the moon with what a value it is.
Amazing TV, Reviews Dont't Apply To My TV
I read a ton of reviews on here talking about a multitude of issues.
A review stated the sound had issues. I have had 0 issue with the sound. It's great quality and gets very loud.
A review stated the picture had issues when gaming. I have played quite a few different types of games and have had again no issue. The picture is beautiful. There is no blur, distortion, or lines around images that I have encountered. Its not to say others dont have this issue, as they could of received a bad one, I just have definitely not had issue.
I am a huge fan of this TV. It has great sound, picture, the roku integration is amazing, the controls are great, I absolutely adore the app on my phone. It is so convenient having a remote whenever I have my phone (so always).
I am extremely happy with my purchase. Wonderful TV for the price, and in general.
Best Purchase...A Steal!
I was worried about shipping but let me tell you, FedEx delivered it to my door in perfect shape. The box is sturdy and has rigid styrofoam and extra cardboard inside protecting the TV. Once out of the box I couldn't believe how light the TV was. I'm coming from a 32" 720p I bought in 06 which is heavier than this 43". I'm a new Roku user so I was prompted to setup my account before proceeding on the TV. You DO NOT need a credit card to setup your account. You do need an account though to access the channel "app" store to add YouTube, Netflix, etc. The TV will walk you through the steps and is as painless as can be. The Roku interface is very easy to learn (I'm coming from Apple TV) and is ultra fast when switching between apps and menus. The remote is simple and doesn't have a ton of buttons, only the bare essentials to control the TV. The remote doesn't have a voice search button, but, if you're on iPhone or Android there's a Roku app that will turn your phone into a remote with voice search. Now, to the picture quality...I'm blown away by the 4k HDR quality I've seen on YouTube and Netflix. It's such an amazing leap from 720p and feels like you're in the theater. The colors and clarity are sensational. There are a lot of settings to adjust and the mobile app allows further "expert settings" to tinker with. I've read this TV doesn't have true HDR but honestly I can't believe it could get any better. For the price this is an absolute steal and I'm 100% pleased with my decision. One more thing...and it might be minor to most...but if you have a slight case of OCD like me, I'm happy to announce Roku on this TV allows you to setup your home screen however you want. You can delete apps, move them around, and have only the ones you want in whatever order you want. Are you listening Apple!!?
Amazing Picture! Absolute steal for the price.
Thrilled with this TV. I was originally hesatant since I had not heard much about TCL. I have always bought Samsung TVs. The display on this monster is absolutely beautiful! I didn't rate the smart TV features since I do not use them. I instead purchased a firestick 4k and run all my apps from there. The first thing I did was open up YouTube and put on some incredible 4k nature videos to show off the screen. It was quite mesmerizing. Sports look great too, even though most of my streams are in 720p the tv does a nice job up upscaling to make it look crystal clear on the giant 75 inch display. The default settings have the contrast a bit low for my liking, but after messing with the remote I was able to change it over to a bright vivid picture. It may not have as many of the advanced features as some of the big name brands but for the price (I got mine for 800 bucks on prime although I see it has increased a bit since then) it is an absolute steal!!! Mounted smoothly on a flush mount wall mount. I purchased the echogear, up to 85 inch model. Just make sure you don't lose the screws that came in the back of the TCL tv. The ones that came with the mount were either too long or too short, so I had to use the ones that were pre-installed. Also make sure you have a buddy to help you lift this thing onto the wall! Amazon's scheduled delivery went very well too. The guys had no problem opening the box and plugging it in for me before they left to make sure it didn't arrive broken.
Easy to use, Roku is simple
I have two LG smart TVs and I wasn't sure about the quality of TCL. After partially finishing the basement, I wanted a low cost TV option for a kids playroom/movie room option. The sound on the TV is adequate and not particularly bad or good, if you've been used to a soundbar then the TV sound will be underwhelming. However the setup was enormously easy. One thing that is lacking about the LG TV, is that LG (and Samsung, and Toshiba) are primarily hardware companies and will never be software companies. The TCL TV is run by a Roku engine, which is primarily a software platform. This makes adding apps and functionality to the TV with your Roku account quite easy. I think TCL is onto something in this business model - using Roku as the main engine, it is a far simpler and easier to use operating system. It also greatly simplifies the remote, and you can also download a Roku remote app if you want. I have a user account with LG somewhere, but frankly I never use it, not do I expect to. The Roku app account, however, can port to many devices and has far more functionality. Pretty smart. Another unexpected benefit was the strength of the internal digital antenna. I have other TV's where I needed some external antenna to pickup HD local broadcast channels. This picked them all up on the auto-channel setup and the picture quality is excellent. Therefore, I can watch the occasional football game in the basement without needing cable. Otherwise, we're just watching movie apps or listening to music. For a pretty low investment this is fantastic.
Great for the price!
Worked flawlessly. Menus are well designed. Easy to set up. Picture quality is fantastic. The viewing angle is pretty narrow. You will get some washout when viewed off center. My only concern was with the mounting points for the wall bracket. They are very narrow. Best if you use a wall mount with a flat plate that screws to the back. The mount I’m using has two vertical bars. It’s not very steady. Again, for the price of the tv you can’t beat it! Hopefully it lasts a long time.
Great entry level 4K TV for the price.
This is my first time purchasing a TCL tv. I must say that it is phenomenal. The Roku interface is great and responsive. The picture quality is superb for the price. The sound is fine, much better than I expected. You can't wrong with this TV for the price. With that being said, you have to understand that this is an entry level TV and what that means is that it will not have the picture quality and features of the high-priced 4k TVs on the market. The HDR is fine but it does not have the peak brightness or capability to really shine. Also, this TV lacks local dimming which makes the blacks look really good and provides a really high rate of contrast. If you really want to have awesome HDR and picture quality, you going to have to pay a lot of money. But, for casual people that don't have a lot of money and are not sticklers for best quality ever, this TV is great and I highly recommend it. I think that you will be pleased.
For $800 this is one of the best deals anywhere
$800. 75 inches. 4K HDR. The screen is so big if you are sitting close enough you have to move your eyeballs left to right to take it all in. Great picture. Great color. Great clarity. Easy to set up. My gamer kid-college student home for the summer stayed home tonight because she got this new TV today and we set it up at 8pm. Re-read that last sentence. She has nothing but good to say about it in the last 2 1/2 hours. Enough so, that she cancelled plans to hang out with this television. Pretty amazing approval in that act on her part. I'm happy I didn't have to spend $2600 to get the same level of satisfaction.
