A Smart TV for a Smart Home
I was looking to upgrade my 6.5 year old Sony 55" Bravia TV (KDL-55HX750) and wanted a larger screen with a 4K display. OLED TVs are too pricey at this stage, so I decided to stick with an LED display. I've been a longtime Sony TV owner and decided to stick with the brand for reliability and good picture quality. I selected the XBR65X850F for a few reasons: 65" size, Android TV, 4 HDMI ports, and size/space underneath television to fit my "sound bar".
The TV satisfies my needs of my current media system & setup: 2 Apple TVs, 1 PS4, and 1 TiVo. I am transitioning from using physical media (e.g., Blu-Rays) into pure streaming media. The TV uses the 802.11 ac 5GHz band and so it satisfies high speed downloads & streaming. My setup also uses Sonos Playbase and it fits PERFECTLY underneath this Sony TV. (Yes, the Sonos Playbase provides amazing sound quality with this TV!)
This is my first Android TV and was pleased with the ease of use and options. I paired a Google Home Mini with the Sony TV and now have a pretty cool setup where I can ask Google to play YouTube videos, play music on the TV, display weather... in fact, I'll be in the kitchen with the TV off, and I'll ask Google to open YouTube, it turns on the Sony TV, opens YouTube and starts playing my recommended videos! Very cool setup!
I am satisfied with the 4K picture quality. I do see where other reviews describe the backlight and not so adequate black levels, but since it's an upgrade to my 1080p TV - those "brighter" black levels don't bother me at all. (Plus, I get a lot of daylight in the room, so I appreciate the brightness of the screen.) Since I am no longer using physical media for this TV, the lack of 3D capabilities is not a deficiency for me. I enjoy the pristine, vibrant colors & details of a normal 4K movie.
There is also an IR remote "extender" that allows me to change channels using the Sony TV remote. Again, my current cable box is a TiVo and with this extender, I'm able to change channels using the remote. I haven't figured out how to activate the remote to "record" live tv without having to use the TiVo remote. Plus, I still need to use the TiVo remote to navigate to my recordings. I like how the Sony remote has a "Google" button that allows the voice commands for the Android TV.
Overall, I'm happy with my purchase based on my current needs and setup.

Wow. What can I say. All I knew was that this tv would be bigger than my 65” Samsung. The picture quality is truly dazzling. As much as hdtv changed things, so does 4K. Unbelievable. And Sony just makes a quality product. Plus delivery was literally 2 days and at the early side of the delivery window. Well done.
I want my... Android TV!?
I own a Sony Bravia 60" TV (KDL60R510A) from about 3 years ago and it's the best TV I've ever owned. That being said, I am surprised at how much more functionality comes in this model compared to the one I have already, and how much more "cable cutter" Friendly it is.
This TV is beautiful to watch. That's a given, and if you're into Sony and a repeat customer, you expect that.
Unboxing was easy and as typical, the only assembly required is inserting the legs and screwing them in. Otherwise, removing some plastic protection wrap around the edges. One thing I noted is that the unit leans back "ever so slightly" by design, and that makes for better viewing if you're standing up and watching it, if the stand is optimized for seated viewing. It helps everyone have a better view and I don't find that distracting or problematic.
Setup was also easy, though more involved than before. It has Android TV which really transforms the experience. You could very easily go internet-based TV on this with the included apps and app store far more easily than in the past. It's a true Android quality experience, while my 2014 model was a good start-- rather Linux-ish and not the breadth of app support. You do have to sign in to your Google account if you want to use all the functionality, but you don't have to sign in if you don't want to use that functionality.
This 4K TV is a part of my 1080i world , except for my Apple TV which is 4K, and it works just fine displaying my 1080i content without looking bad. I was worried about this, and eventually will get around to replacing my Denon HDMI passthrough receiver, though my Tivo does not supply 4K content today either. It wasn't a painful middle ground.
Since my receiver is not 4K, I have the Apple TV using an additional HDMI on the TV, and the TV is ouputting optical audio to my Denon and the Denon is receiving on TV audio only, so that's my functionality workaround for 4K content without a 4K receiver or other content providers yet.
The remote and settings are Sony familiar, and usage is sony familiar. It fit in with my Logitech Harmony Universal RF blaster that controls everything, which is integrated with Alexa, so turning it on and off and changing channels is all automated and very little changing had to be done as my 60" from 2014 was in this spot previously. I don't know yet how much of the Android TV can be managed by voice but I eventually hope to figure that out.
It does do HDR with the Apple TV and Netflix is absolutely stunning. I can't even.
When it comes to customization, the coloration settings are all simple customizable, advanced customizable, and easily reset so after you play and aren't sure what rabbit hole you've gone down, you can reset. I found the default auto settings and light sensing brightness adaptation work really well for me and I ended up reverting back to auto/defaults.
This one is 5" bigger than my previous unit, and while I look at the edge it doesn't seem larger, the new one doesn't seem to take up any more space, at all. I can only guess the edges are thinner.
I've been a Sony fan for many years now. I just keep going back. This was an especially great deal during Black Friday week and I couldn't say no. Fully pleased, love it, hope to love it for a long time!

A great tv a little late
his tv has a great picture and wonderful sound. If there would be a problem it would be getting to the back to put in accessories (dvd player, etc) The picture goes completely all around the frame. It was worth the price. Don't expect this tv in 2 days with prime, It took Amazon almost a week to deliver it to me.
Great Picture
The best TV I could have gotten; I was debating b/w this Sony and an LG 86 IPS model, so glad I decided on this one finally. So far I'm 5 months into this TV and the picture is purely unbeatable. 4K content is how to truly make this TV shine. I've not had to do much tweaking (very little to almost none) and it has perfect blacks with default settings. Even in sunlit rooms the picture quality is still great. The built-in apps are very convenient and has just about all apps needed for cord-cutters. I'd recommend having the TV hard-wired for internet access or have a strong Wi-Fi signal (personal preference). The remote is a bit of a pain navigating the menu and finding some items (still trying to learn it) but hardly every use it which may be a reason. Ultimately may never need to learn it since I predominately use the cable remote and eventually will get a universal remote for all devices. Sound quality if good for TV this size, and placement of speakers at bottom helps especially with TV wall mounted. I would recommend a sound bar or connect to a home theater system for best sound quality/experience.

The driver left the box at my door and ran, no signature asked. Boooo.....maybe my fault for not specifying. But, this Sony is a Thing Of Beauty. It was easy to set up by ourselves and it has a fantastic picture. Measure your existing TV stand as I underestimated the width of our stand. This comes with 1 HDMI cable so if you need more to connect a play system, karaoke, and/or DVD, please buy more. Also consider the dimensions of the space you'll place it as we had to raise the height of pictures over it! Our old TV (Sony, of course) was only 50”...this 65” seems ginormous ( but in a good way). Oh and the price: unbelievable!! We are loving this TV. Still learning how to use everything as this is loaded with extra features! Oh and don't be afraid to adjust settings to your preferences; if you think you've made a "mistake", you can always go back to the factory default. HUGE
Wow this is a whopper of a TV, unbelievable how thin it is. No screen glare problem like I’ve experienced with some Sony TVs in the past. Be aware; if you’ve never owned or installed a 75 inch TV you may not realize just how big, and heavy 75s are compared to a 65. My arms are wide enough that I can handle a 65 by myself, but I can barely curl my fingertips around the edges of a 75, and I believe it’s weight is around 85 pounds. If you’re wall mounting, particularly high up on the wall, trying to hoist 85 pounds grasp with your fingertips straight up over your head is probably not gonna happen unless you’re a star player for the LA Lakers. Even getting that sucker out of the box and onto the included stand is an obligatory two person job. But once that sucker is up on the wall it’s worth it, I had a friend come over and help mount in master bedroom and now this TV thunders over the bed like an Apollo rocket taking off. Haven’t had to switch a single lamp on since I bought it because it lights up the entire room like a spotlight from an alien spacecraft and the Sony sound bar and Bluetooth subwoofer are set at about 88% and rippled the sheets around me when I’m watching A Blu-ray.

4k is a beautiful thing!
This tv was a huge step up from the 720 standard resolution 60" Sony I had for 17 years. With no issues in all that time!! And was still working perfectly right up to the moment that we shut it off for the last time. But it was time for the upgrade. I chose a Sony based on the service of my last tv. And what a upgrade it was, WOW!!! I was concerned that the 8000 series might disappoint me compared to the 9000 series that is a little brighter. But I can tell you that for the $1000+ you save, you don't even notice the difference once it sits in your living room!!! I love this tv, but I recommend you go for the sound system just to raise the bar a little more, why not right.
Amazing value for size and price
So far so good, was worried about shipping but came with no damage, as others have mentioned, will take two to open and set up carefully. I upgraded from a Sony Bravia that was well over10 yes old and this one seems very well built and the picture quality is great, I don’t have a true 4K player, I have a PS4 slim but the games like destiny and red dead look beautiful, I highly recommend this as you get more tv with comparable picture quality as the 900 series, I understand the new hdr is “better” but I don’t have 4K blu rays or a player so this was more than good for price and the size plus payment options!

Wonderful TV
Bought this during a Christmas sale on Amazon, and did not regret a thing! Excellent picture quality, especially when paired with our AppleTV 4k. 4k HDR is amazing!!! If you use Google Home, then this TV integrates well with that, too. I was even impressed with the overall sound quality, although we are going to pair this with our HomePods.
Wow is it nice
This TV is definitely big. Wow big. The colors are excellent. The software included is good. One item that is a bummer in my case is that I have Sonos Beam speaker as the sound bar and the speaker is just tall enough to obstruct the remote sensor on the TV :( so a workaround was needed. Other than this, it is an excellent choice.

I got this for my husband as a gift and he loves it. Thinks that the Sony Bravias are the best on the market. The picture quality is fantastic, who knew TV things could look so crisp?! We use it with our PS4 and they sync with no problem; the TV also switches HDMI inputs with no problem or indication from us when that machine is turned on (if we turn on our Nintendo Switch it automatically changes to the appropriate input) it’s a small thing but it’s nifty. I think set up was easy, he unboxed it and hooked it up by himself, including lifting onto our three foot tall TV stand. I think it’s great, But my standards for TVs are pretty low; my husband adores it and he loves TVs.

Great TV. Built-in chromecast makes it so much easier. Excellent clarity in video and audio. TV watching experience feels complete.
The packaging of the TV needs a special mention. It was padded well to avoid any cracks or breakage.
Great 4k experience!
Great product overall! I enjoy the crsip look of the 4k HDR and the 1080p upscaling. Only thing i did not like was the IR blaster, it was kind of cheap and broke when I tried to set it up to my comcast box. But i dont really need that feature, so I gave it 5 stars!
Sony TV
After adjusting the picture to get the best color saturation and sharpest picture this is a great TV. I have bought Sony products for a long time and have yet to be disappointed with them. Took me awhile to pick this TV for all the research that I did. Going to Stores to look at product and compare between Samsung and Sony. Came down to my satisfaction with the Sony product line. Would recommended this TV to anyone.

Amazing picture even on standard setting. 85 inch is good size and amazon delivery is very convenient. If you in market for big screen TV this should be on your shortlist.
Classic Sony picture, even better experience when you add a sound bar
This is my third Sony in a bit more than a decade, and with all I’ve been 100% satisfied with the natural picture quality. The Android system is intuitive enough and all the main logins for streaming services was a snap. I already had a simple all-in-one Yamaha sound bar which integrated easily. The built in sound is okay but I think most users will be happier with even a fairly basic upgrade like I did.

This is absolutely great TV. Common it's a Sony. The only thing is the remote control shoud be renovated since it looks like it hasn't been changed since 90's.

Best overall picture clarity.
The colors are typical of Sony's true colors. I am using this TV in the family room and can read everything on the screen without glasses. I am so glad that I chose this size TV because it is an enhanced viewing experience.

Great picture even from non-had source. Soundbar obstructs the remote control, that’s the only complaint I have. Compared to the external sound system, sound quality is weak.

TV is great for daytime viewing.
A T.V. like this one is good for bright rooms because it outputs a good amount of light, an OLED Television has better darks, but OLEDs cost twice as much as this 850F. Good Value.
