During the earnings call today, CEO and President of DirecTV Michael D. White has announced that it will launch its own 4K video-on-demand (VOD) service 4K "before year end". Blanc also referred to other ambitious plans 4K DirecTV.

White told the audience that he hopes (2160 3840 x) Ultra High Definition resolution "to transfer 2015 or early '16 able live content."
In order to achieve this depends on the successful launch of two new satellites for the U.S. market over the next 18 months. New Birds "unlock much additional capacity to our system, and we hope that something will be used by this ability to, 4K content will be able to stream," White said.

On the question whether the quality of service is better than it is to be with HD cable now, White said: "No - I have not seen - knowledge Comcast is working .. and I have not seen their performance.. I am sure they will do a good job, but certainly expect full, with the two new satellites up, please give us a unique advantage of the ability to provide capable, an exceptional customer experience. And as I said actually hope before reaching these satellites and "do Services (4K) before the end of the year.
White said DirecTV is to start on obtaining native 4K content as one of the challenges in the location and 4K VOD broadcast live via satellite works.
