Reviews of TCL 55S425 55 inch 4K Smart LED Roku TV (2019)

Great tv, needs better options.
The only two issues I have with this tv is the constant advertising of movies or shows in the main menu and on the screen saver. I don’t want to see that, and the whole mirror share option. Make sure to turn that option off out of the box because your neighbors might try to stream inappropriate things on your tv. I kept
waking up to my tv being on in the middle of the night because my neighbors were trying to use mirror stream. The tv needs better options for keeping outside people from controlling your tv.

 nice cheap TV
+ the price
+ roku (it is very snappy and stable, have a Sony for living room and netflix app constantly crashes, is slow to load apps, this roku TV is fast and responsive and seams stable)
+ screen is ok, people complain about viewing angles, but is ok from any acceptable view angle, sure at 170' maybe is not as others but who watches a TV "from behind the TV", seen other reviews regarding screen light being nonuniform, i noticed same thing on mine but when i looked closer the TV was bent curved screen on non curved TV, exchanged it, second one that arrived looks flat and now image brightness is uniform. look at all edges all corners and make sure it arrived in good shape on mine i could not notice the bent unless i was looking straight along the bent edge.
narrow bezels.

If you're looking for a great TV at an amazing price, this is it.
Everything worked perfectly right out of the box. The picture is outstanding with some options for adjustment. The sound is very good for the room, on the smaller size, we have it in and there are also great sound setting options. I wish the power cord was about 3 feet longer, but that's an easy fix.

Online setup is very easy. I didn't have to call anyone, as mentioned in some other posts. You just go to Roku website and enter the code presented on the TV during initial setup. I opted not to provide credit card information. That's one of the steps, in addition to adding other accounts, like Amazon prime video and Netflix.

I mounted it with the VideoSecu ML531BE wall mount. It worked perfectly. That's a great product, too, with all the extra hardware they provide. The TCL TV only came with 2 of the 4 mounting screws, but the VideoSecu mount more than made up for the difference with extra screws and washers.

surprisingly good for the money (but not for a family room TV)

Excellent computer monitor, deep blacks, really nice... Probably not great for a real TV as viewing angles are rather limited.. but if you're straight in line with it, its beautiful... Decent gaming (Racing and Flight sims for me -- and some strategy), probably not fast enough for First Person shooters twitch shooters.

Not great for text, but better than expected. I run my windows with 150% UI size and that works pretty well, and it gets much better as you increase that zoom, so its a trade off clarity vs screen space. I kept a standard 1080 monitor on the side for when reading is critical... This main screen is for entertainment games and youtube, roku, etc. Works great.

Perfect Bedroom TV
Great TV with surprisingly good audio!
I've been impressed with pretty much everything about this television. It was easy to set up, easy to mount, and the picture quality is great! The built-in Roku is incredibly convenient and makes it easy to watch content from different sources. The most surprising thing (to me) though was just how good the audio is. With my previous TV, I ran the audio through my stereo, because the TV speakers sounded terrible, so when I first set it up, I did the same thing with this one. Unfortunately, my stereo started having some problems, so I was forced to temporarily switch to using the TV's speakers. I expected them to be weak and tinny (like pretty much every other TV I've seen), but the sound was surprisingly rich. It still can't compete with a good external audio system, but it's every bit as good as the sound was through my stereo.

The only negative I had at all was that it was damaged in shipment and wouldn't work, but Amazon replaced it VERY quickly, and the replacement works beautifully. I highly recommend this television.

One of the best deals you can get on a 4K TV for sure!!!!
Let me start by saying that I was highly skeptical of buying this TV! I first saw it at Best Buy and couldn’t believe how inexpensive it was compared to the other, more well known brands. The picture and sound quality in the store looked great, and the profile of the TV is very thin, which I really like. The salesperson at BB said that they had been carrying them for several years and had nothing but great reviews from customers about them. Additionally, they rarely saw one come back with problems or defects. Best Buy didn’t have one in the 50 inch size, so I ordered it from Amazon, along with the sound bar. I figured that I could afford the sound bar, since the TV was so inexpensive. The TV arrived a couple of days later and it was set up in a matter of minutes. The sound bar took about 20 minutes more to hook everything up and pair it with the wireless subwoofer. I’ve been using the TV now for about 2 weeks now and absolutely love it! The picture quality is excellent and the sound bar was well worth the money. For those looking for “smart” features, it seems to have all the basics, although I’ve got my 4K Apple TV hooked up to it, so I’m not using any of the built in smart features. Overall, I have to say that this is one of the best deals that I’ve gotten in a long time. I would highly recommend it to anyone.

WATCH OUT FOR THE FEET
I almost docked this tv because of the feet. It was received a few days ago and so far pleased with it. I like all the features and the picture is very clear. I like the small remote; it's easy to handle and operate just may have problem with misplacing since it's so small. No complaints though. Bought a sound bar for it, so can't critique the sound. The one thing I would warn about is that there are feet on this rather than a stand, and they are far apart and just fit on my dresser but risked going over the edge, and they seemed unstable. Didn't notice or think about it having legs. Guess I just assumed it had a stand when ordering and because it was one of Amazon's Deals with a great price, in my excitement I overlooked the tiny legs at each end of tv. I ended up spending $30 more to add a stand which makes it much better. First though, I tried, through Amazon, a corner wall-mount for the corner of my room, but the wall-mount arm didn't extend far enough for the tv to clear the walls; even the description for the wall-mount said it would work in a corner for more than a 50" tv. Nope. Returned it and bought a Universal Height Adjustable TV Stand that is height-adjustable so made it high enough to put sound bar below and it fits perfectly on my corner console. It is very stable and well made. Much better. Am now pleased with my purchase. Also, Amazon is so great about returns that the wall-mount was simple to return and I ordered the new stand using their "Guaranteed Same Day Delivery" shipping for only $6.99 additional charge with Prime. It was ordered at 11:59 am and arrived at the front door at 6:19 pm SAME DAY. Great service.

wonderbox
bought this TV for my mom as a christmas gift. bad first, then good.
1. they need less simplified controls on the remote. my mom is old and has no idea what any of the buttons do, and forgets once told. also with the remote- its ability via IR to communicate with the tv is very limited, it is very finicky.
2. attaching an antenna and using digital broadcast stations... in this regard, the tv picks up VERY limited channels and I could not find a way to MANUALLY search for channels to watch. when using an older TV, was able to pick up 15+ channels, only 2 on the Roku.

now the good.
1. the picture quality is AMAZING for the pricepoint. I have the 6S17, and the 4S25 in my opinion looks better.
2. it is relatively loud and for the price point worth every penny.
3. the asthetics are...oooooh! its a good looking tv! idk what else to say about a tv other than it looks great, sounds great. it has adequate amounts of inputs for what its used for. sound bar, dvd player, bluray player, ethernet port, antenna/cable port. smartcast is very easy and efficient... its a GREAT TV!!!
